Women Safety

Nirbhaya incident on 16 December 2012 raped our souls. We decided to create Pepper Spray Mobile - a mobile app for Women Safety.

Izat us ladki ki ni lutti jiska rape hua, blki us ldke ki lutti h jisne rape kiya.
Har ladki durga ma ka roop h, jo uski respect na kr ske, vo mard ni...

The girl who was raped does not lose her honor, but the boy who raped her loses his honor.
Every girl is an avatar of Goddess Durga, one who fails to respect her, is no man.

How can we fix rape in India?

Let us first review potential approaches. We prefer to refer to rape movies in Bollywood because masses can relate and understand the potential solutions from a 1000 foot view.

  1. In the movie Damini, villain is a powerful rich family backed by corrupt lawyer. Hero is mojo strong man (Sunny Deol) who can fight physically and is a lawyer who gets the victim justice. Do we need mojo strong men to beat the all powerful? Do you like this approach? Damini, though takes the righteous decision and stands alone even if she was afraid and felt helpless.

  2. In many south Indian movies, one mojo very muscular hero fights alone with the whole corrupt system and beats them all against all odds. Super natural and super muscular. Though it reflects the frustration and aspirations of our society, is this the approach we want to take?

  3. In the movie Mom, mom of the raped victim takes revenge personally. We need a solution at the national level.

  4. Article 15: Isha Talwar in one of the conversations, tells Ayushman Khurana (in police force). I do not expect you to be a Hero and fight everyone. I just want you to stand your ground and just do the right thing. Just take the righteous decision even if you feel alone and afraid.

  5. Singham Series: Ajay devgan succeeds in uniting police force to stand against the powerful and corrupt. Is this way acceptable to us as a society?

What should be our approach to fix rape in India?

Any practical, long term and sustainable solution to rape has to involve the following:

  1. Uniting police force to stand against the culprit and for righteousness

  2. Uniting and empowering legal system to do the right things

  3. Holding public, media and hence politicians responsible for results

Why uniting police force is important and how do we do it?

Important distinction first: Uniting for Justice vs Uniting for Rebellian are completely opposite. Rebellian will lead you to resistance or will make you a terrorist. Uniting for Rebellian is a crime. DO NOT BE A REBEL (Sorry Bollywood). What should an individual be? Short answer, just be yourself. You are already a hero. If you do not know who you are and what you want to be, your safest bet as an individual is to be an Angad. Put your foot so firmly on the ground, even the mighty Meghnath can not lift it. Just take the righteous decision, righteous next step even if you feel alone and afraid.

Our police is divided on multiple fault lines. Ye area mere thane me ni h. Crime area is not my area. Do not teach me law or Zero FIR. Just get lost. The very first step we need as a nation is that every rape gets reported. We need a record of each rape. Is it too much to ask from our police?

Our legal system can not deliver justice until they are backed by genuine and timely investigation, forensics and evidence collection by police.
